Robert J. Avila
Co-Founder and Vice Chair of Yes Housing, Inc.
Robert J. Avila first met Chris Baca when Mr. Baca was the President/CEO of Youth Development, Inc. In 1976, as an UNM Intern, he was assigned to work with adolescents at the North Valley branch of that agency. He enjoyed the work very much and, as his internship ended, told Chris that he had been admitted to law school but wanted to continue assisting him with his work once he was done with law school and had established his practice.
True to this word, in 1980, he called Mr. Baca and said he was ready to volunteer his time to the Agency. For more than a decade he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of YDI and then assisted in establishing YES Housing, Inc. where he served as the Vice Chair until his untimely passing in 2021. Without his legal acumen, his commitment to the community, and his passionate and unswerving support of YES Housing, Inc.’s mission, the organization would not has be as successful as it is.
An avid golfer, it was only fitting to establish the Robert J. Avila Memorial Golf Tournament to honor his legacy. The goal is to raise funds to help residents in YES’ developments by providing funding for service and healthy living coordinators.
